The very first top CS:GO event of 2021 already features a million dollar prize pool to be split among the participants, the eight teams who performed the best in the BLAST Premier circuit and therefore qualified for this massive season finale.

With the top three of the world rankings in attendance alongside spicy teams like FURIA and Complexity, this is a must-see for all Counter-Strike fans.

What is BLAST Premier: Global Finals 2020?

The Global Final is the culmination of 2020’s BLAST circuit, featuring the eight teams who performed the best in last year’s tournaments.

Two teams of the European Spring Finals and one from the American Spring Finals are joined by the top team from the Fall Finals (Astralis, who finished second but still earned the spot due to the fact that the winners Vitality have already qualified) plus the four squads who racked up the most points from the wider circuit as a whole.

Which also features events like Flashpoint and ESL’s flagship tournaments in the calculation – hence the presence of Team Liquid, who leapfrogged quite a few sides with their strong showing at the IEM Global Challenge to close off 2020.

Unsurprisingly, the top three in the world rankings (Astralis, Team Vitality and Natus Vincere) are also the most likely to make it to the finals here, and the double elimination format means that they can also recover from an early upset with a strong lower bracket run.

With this in mind, it’s tough to see any of the other teams getting a look in for a grand final spot, and we quite like Na’Vi offered at +206 to reach the final a top eSports betting sites.

Since this is the first event after the winter break, it’s tough to tell which teams and players are firing on all cylinders, but past precedent seems to suggest that teams with a larger reliance on tactics and protocols (meaning Astralis) tend to perform better early on compared to those leaning more on individual brilliance. As such, we’d take the Danes at +172 to win the entire event outright.

As an aside, predicting a European event winner seems like a bit of free money, even at -800.

BLAST Premier: Global Finals 2020 opening matchup predictions

The tournament opens with Astralis going up against Evil Geniuses, a matchup which promised a lot of excitement around a year and a half ago but no longer suggests a competitive game due to the North American side’s recent performances (or lack thereof). A 2-0 win for gla1ve’s men is offered at -115 and seems like a good call for us.

G2 versus FURIA has cropped up quite often in the second part of 2020 and therefore we have a decent sample size of how these two sides match up.

In total, the Europeans have the edge with a 2-1 record in series and 6-2 in maps, and if you also factor in the Brazilians’ having to play with a stand-in in the form of honda, you can see why G2’s win is offered at -287, with a 2-0 win at +106.

The Vitality And Complexity Matchup

The matchup between Vitality and Complexity promises to be a barnburner, even if ZywOo and co. are considered runaway favorites for this one at -595.

Having to use JUGi instead of poizon for this event is a huge downgrade for Complexity, but the odds are so one-sided that we can still see some value in predicting the underdogs to get at least one map at +137.

Finally, though Team Liquid put up a better-than-expected fight at the IEM Global Challenge, the last event of 2020, Na’Vi scored a 2-0 win over them there, and we’d take the +117 offered at the time of writing for the same result this time around.
