The Louisville Cardinals will host in-state rivals, the Kentucky WIldcats on Saturday afternoon. Louisville enters the game with a 5-1 record while the Wildcats are a disappointing 1-5 and losers of five consecutive games.
The game will take place at the KFC Yum Center and tip off at 1:00 PM EST. Louisville are 4.5 point home favorites with the total being set 134.5 points.
Kentucky is looking to rebound
The Kentucky WIldcats entered the season with National Championship aspirations but have fallen flat thus far. After winning their opening night game, they have lost five consecutive games, three of which by double digits.
Head Coach John Calipari recently asked freshman forward Cam’ron Fletcher to “step away” from the program but expect him to return at some point according to reports. Calipari has also appointed three of his players to address the lack of leadership in the locker room. Kentucky typically improves as the season progresses, it will be interesting to see if this is what turns the WIldcats around.
Kentucky is led by freshman phenom BJ Boston, a 6’7 wing that averages 14 points and 6 rebounds per game. The Wildcats lack of a true point guard has been their biggest downfall this season.Kentucky ranks 74th in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency and 292nd in offensive turnover percentage.
The Wildcats are just 2-4 against the spread this season and each of their six games have gone under the total.
Louisville looks for a statement win
The Louisville Cardinals are seeking their second consecutive win after defeating the Pittsburgh Panther in their ACC opener. Louisville’s sole blemish is a sound beating at the hands of top ten Wisconsin a week ago. They rebounded effectively to defeat Pittsburgh.
The Cardinals are led by one of the best backcourts in the nation in Carlik Jones and David Johnson. Both of whom are stat sheet stuffers. Jones, a transfer from Radford, has made a seamless transition to the ACC, averaging 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists per game while shooting 50% from behind the arc.
Sophomore wing Samuell WIlliamson looks to have returned to form against Pittsburgh, scoring 14 points and snagging 12 rebounds. If Louisville is to make a run in the NCAA tournament or in the ACC, Williamson will need to continue to pay at a high level.
Louisville is 3-3 against the spread as well as in the over/under on the season. The total has gone under in 13 o the last 20 meetings between the two teams.

It is difficult to pick Kentucky at this point and a road game against an in-state rival is hardly the time to start. The Wildcats don’t have a point guard, they can’t shoot and there doesn’t seem to be much on-court leadership. They have the talent to win this game but Louisville has a fantastic backcourt that should lead them to a home victory. Look for the Cardinals to cover at home, take the under.
