We’re kicking off another FBOTD week in Portugal, and Kevin Hatchard’s looking for cup success with capital club Sporting.
Big guns to fire
Sacavenense v Sporting
Monday 23 November, 21:15
There was a dose of Dutch delight for our pal Tobias yesterday, as Twente’s 1-1 draw with PSV landed his BTTS bet. Having secured a profit for the week, he can enjoy a week off, if there’s anything open to actually enjoy.
We’ll kick off our week in Portugal. In-form Lisbon giants Sporting are making the trip to face third-tier side Sacavenense in the Portuguese Cup, and I’m expecting a comfortable away win.
Sacavenense made a decent start to the league season, winning their first two games, but they haven’t won since. They squeezed past fellow lower-league side Anca in the previous round on penalties.
Sporting are out of Europe, and the lower strain on their resources is apparently working in their favour. Astute coach Ruben Amorim has overseen a four-match winning run in the Primeira Liga. Sporting are four points clear at the top of the standings, and have scored at least twice in their last five matches. Having crashed out of the Taca de Portugal at lower-league Alverca last term, the Lions will be keen to avoid a similar slip-up this time around.
There’s no reason why Amorim shouldn’t field a strong side here, as Sporting have no European entanglements, and they don’t have a league game until next weekend. I’ll back the visitors -2.0 on the Asian Handicap here at 1.84/5, which means we have our stake returned if they win by two goals, but we get a winner if they win by a bigger margin.
