It’s better to be lucky than good.
An online lottery gambler in Michigan is the winner of a $872,165 jackpot, the Michigan Lottery announced Wednesday. The prize, which came from the Fantasy 5 online game, is one of the largest prizes any player can win playing an intrastate game. Michiganders are able to play Mega Millions and Powerball from their smartphones or computers, which are national offerings that can award prizes well in excess of $872,000.
In Michigan, lottery winners can remain anonymous, and that’s what the man from Oakland County, located near Detroit, opted to do.
“I don’t play often, but I usually buy online when I do because it’s so convenient,” said the anonymous player through the Michigan Lottery. “A couple of hours before the drawing, I logged in and bought a ticket.”
Talk about a great PR quote for the online lottery.
The player visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize, according to the presser.
How to play Fantasy 5?
Fantasy 5 is one of 104 online lottery games available via the Michigan Lottery, arguably the most advanced iLottery in the nation. The starting jackpot for Fantasy 5 is $100,000, and drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. EST.
For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the nightly Double Play drawing. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from 1 to 39. Players who match all five numbers drawn win the jackpot.
Fantasy 5 is considered a draw game, according to the Michigan Lottery’s website. It’s one of five such games, with the vast majority of the Michigan Lottery’s online games being so-called instant games.
The $872,165 jackpot was part of $93,354,558 in prizes claimed by players over the last week, per the Michigan Lottery’s website Thursday morning.
