The crazy race for the final playoff spots in the National League will continue Saturday at Busch Stadium when the Milwaukee Brewers do battle with the St. Louis Cardinals in game four of their five-game set.
The Cardinals have won two of the first three games and now have a two game lead over Milwaukee. MyBookie has a moneyline on this game of Milwaukee -115, while the Cardinals check in at -105.
Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview: Must Win Time
The Milwaukee Brewers come into play with a record of 28-30, five games behind the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central, but more importantly, two games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second place spot with two games to go.
The Brewers also trail the Cincinnati Reds by a game, and the San Francisco Giants by a half-game. Milwaukee is tied with the Philadelphia Phillies as well, so the waters are a bit muddy at this time.
The Brewers will send righty Brandon Woodruff to the mound to start a must-win game Saturday. Woodruff is 2-5 on the season with a 3.43 ERA. In his last outing, Woodruff went 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits in a 6-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds last Monday.
The Brewers’ offense has been the reason they are in the position that they find themselves. Milwaukee has struggled mightily offensively for most of the season, as is evidenced by their leading hitter, Avasail Garcia’s batting average of .250. Second baseman Keston Hiura leads the team with 13 home runs and 32 RBI.
St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview: Win and Get In
The St. Louis Cardinals come into play with a record of 29-27, three games behind the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central. The Cardinals could potentially have four games left and could win the division, but they would need help.
The easiest path to the playoffs is to claim second place in the division, and winning the rest of their games would do just that. They lead the Reds by a game, and the Brewers by two games going into Saturday’s games. St. Louis will have the right man on the mound to continue to win.
Veteran righthander Adam Wainwright will take the mound for the Redbirds Saturday. Wainwright is 5-2 with a 3.05 ERA at age 39. Wainwright went 5.2 innings in his last start, allowing three runs on five hits in a 4-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals last Monday.
The Cardinals’ offense also has not been great. They have been led by first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. He is hitting .306 with six home runs and 20 RBI. Goldschmidt also has an on-base percentage of .422, and an OPS of .900.
Betting Lines and Predictions
MyBookie has a moneyline on this game of Milwaukee -115, while the Cardinals currently sit at -105. Neither one of these teams have been able to get a sustained winning streak going this season, and they are very evenly matched.
Wainwright, however, has been a bulldog for the Cardinals all season and Saturday should be no different. He should be the difference maker and the reason why you should take the Cardinals in this one.
