Newbury tips

12.10 – BoscaSports Racing’s Digital Display Juvenile Hurdle – 2m

Nicky Henderson’s OVERPRICED MIXER was a decent individual on the flat and made a successful hurdling debut at Kempton. He was still in contention when unseating his rider two from home last time and has an excellent chance to make amends here given he’s already achieved a good level of form over hurdles.

Whilst TINNAHALLA and NIGHT BEAR were fair sorts on the flat and are notable debutants in this sphere. Neither of the pair will be inconvenienced by the soft ground and if putting their best foot forward, they should be able to make an impact.

Selections: OVERPRICED MIXER, TINNAHALLA, NIGHT BEAR

12.40 – BoscaSports The Retail Bookmakers Choice Maiden Hurdle – 2m

Nicky Henderson’s LECALE’S ARTICLE will be a warm favourite to get the job done at the first time of asking having cost a huge sum back in 2018. Ideally, I’d have liked to have seen him out sooner to see if he’s as good as many believe him to be, but considering he’s going off short in the betting, it would be risky to leave him out of our ticket.

Olly Murphy’s stable are going well and his intended runner, RESTANDBETHANKFUL, showed promise in a couple of bumpers already this season and has the potential to make a decent hurdler for connections.

Selections: LECALE’S ARTICLE, RESTANDBETHANKFUL

13.10 – BoscaSports Retail Tote Displays Worldwide Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase – 2m7f

The Philip Hobbs-trained ST BARTS made an encouraging chase debut when second to the 143-rated Ofalltheginjoints and although the winner has let the form down since, this six-year-old goes well on taxing ground and he holds leading claims nudged up just 3Ib with plenty more to come under the former champion.

DANSE IDOL didn’t set the world alight in her first attempt over fences on return to action but she’s entitled to strip much fitter and considering the fact that she was runner-up in Grade Two/Listed races over hurdles, her handicap mark of 125 in this sphere makes her an interesting proposition with Bryony Frost booked to ride.

Selections: ST BARTS, DANSE IDOL

13.45 – Pertemps Network Mares’ Chase – 2m7f

Only the three-runners go to post, and that should see MAGIC OF LIGHT win this listed prize for the third year running. She had a lovely pipe-opener over hurdles when last seen and on official ratings, she’s rated 19Ib clear of her nearest rival, who is only getting 2Ib from Jessica Harrington’s mare. On the form available, she’s the likely winner and the rightful favourite.

Having said that, SENSULANO will be no pushover given she’s more than capable of making a race of it with the favourite. She did well over fences last season and will enjoy the forecast soft ground conditions. If Magic Of Light fluffs her lines, she’s probably the one to capitalise.

Selections: MAGIC OF LIGHT, SENSULANO

14.20 – Every Race Live On Racing TV EBF Stallions ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle – 2m4f

THE BOMBER LISTON was just touched off on his latest start in a bumper and should be more suited to a set of hurdles with conditions no hindrance. This sort of test should be right up his street and he’s strongly fancied to get off the mark for Nicky Henderson and Aidan Coleman.

Despite carrying a penalty, FLASH COLLONGES has to be recognised as the main threat with the in-form Harry Skelton taking the ride. He remains open to improvement in this discipline and should make a bold bid.

Selections: THE BOMBER LISTON, FLASH COLLONGES

14.55 – BoscaSports The No1 Digital Betting Shop Display Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase – 2m

It was good to see SAO finally get off the mark at Hexham on just his third start for connections last month and a 5Ib rise looks quite tolerable. If he can produce a similar performance here, he shouldn’t be far away.

DOITFORTHEVILLAGE showed a slight decline in from last season but the handicapper has continued to show him mercy and his latest fourth at Ascot in a slightly better race was encouraging and he’s officially 11Ib lower then when finishing third in a competitive race at this venue back in 2018.

Selections: DOITFORTHEVILLAGE, SAO
