NFL Betting Preview: Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions – Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020

NFC North rivals Green Bay and Detroit will square off for the second time this season. The Packers won the first matchup this season, 42-21, at Lambeau Field in Week 2. Kick-off for round two is scheduled for 4:25 pm ET.

This rivalry has been rather strange lately as they’ve played two very close ball games in 2019, bookended by each team blowing the other one out.

Green Bay Packers Betting Preview: Can Clinch Playoff Spot and NFC North

The Packers can clinch the NFC North with a win coupled with a Vikings loss to the Buccaneers. In another scenario, they can clinch at least a playoff spot with a win coupled with either an Arizona Cardinals loss or Seattle Seahawks loss in their respective games.

Green Bay has been downright lethal with Aaron Rodgers running the offense this year. They are the top-scoring team in the NFC, and I cannot see this relatively weak Lions defense changing that. This is the same defense that yielded 30 points to the offensively challenged Chicago Bears last week.

The Packers are now 22-6 with second-year head coach Matt LaFleur running the show in the post-Mike McCarthy era. They have not lost to the Lions since LaFleur took over. They had lost four straight to Detroit before LaFleur got to Green Bay.

Detroit Lions Betting Preview: Second Game under Interim Head Coach

Despite firing their head coach and general manager Thanksgiving weekend, the Lions are not out of the playoff race in the NFC just yet. They trail Minnesota by one game in the final NFC Wild Card slot and still get a matchup with them in the final week of the season.

The Lions shocked the football world a week ago with a rather miraculous come from behind win against the Chicago Bears. The Lions scored two touchdowns in the final 2:18 to secure the upset win in the first game under interim head coach and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Bevell took over for Matt Patricia two weeks ago, and the offense seemed to have a different gear last week against Chicago. Matthew Stafford looked rejuvenated, and they should get rookie running back De’Andre Swift back this week.

Packers at Lions Bettings Odds & Lines

BetOnline has the Packers as a -8.5 point favorite in this one. The Packers offense is unyielding, and the Detroit defense will not be able to slow down the passing attack of Green Bay.

Despite the Lions’ rejuvenation under their interim head coach and uplifting win over Chicago, it won’t be enough.

I am taking Green Bay -8.5 to cover in this one. Rodgers’ connection with fellow MVP candidate Davante Adams in a climate-controlled atmosphere in the dome in Detroit is just too much for the Lions to handle. This is an easy cover as the Packers roll to a 34-20 victory.
