NFL Betting Preview: Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints – Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020

The Saints head to Philly this week to take on the Eagles in an NFC showdown. Kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field is at 4:25 pm ET.

This may be the Eagles’ last stand as they are on the cusp of fading completely from the playoff picture in the NFC East.

On the other hand, the Saints will look to build on their successful season and keep the top seed in the NFC playoffs in hand for another week.

New Orleans Saints Betting Preview: Saints Look To Strengthen Grip On Top Seed in NFC

The Saints head into Week 14 with an opportunity to clinch the NFC South with a win coupled with a Tampa Bay loss. With Tampa currently in a rut and a red hot Vikings team coming to town, it is certainly a realistic opportunity the Saints could clinch the division this week.

If the Saints are to get the win this week, they will have to do it without their Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees again. Taysom Hill will be at the helm of the Saints offensive attack for a fourth consecutive week. Hill is 3-0 as the fill-in quarterback since Brees left their Week 10 matchup with San Francisco with multiple rib fractures and a punctured lung.

Philadelphia Eagles Betting Preview: Eagles Turn To Rookie Jalen Hurts at Quarterback

The Eagles 2020 second-round pick Jalen Hurts will start at quarterback and try to guide the Eagles back into contention in the woeful NFC East. Hurts gets the keys to the Philly offense after former first-round quarterback Carson Wentz was benched in a loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Hurts will be making his first start in the NFL against the league’s number one defense in New Orleans. The Saints’ front seven get after the quarterback, but Hurts has the talent and mobility to neutralize the speed and tenacity of the Saints’ defensive line.

Saints at Eagles Betting Odds & Lines

MyBookie has the Saints as a -8 point favorite in this one. At first glance, that seems like a lot for the Saints, who are notoriously better at home in the Mercedes-Benz Dome than on the road.

The addition of Hurts to the Eagles lineup throws a wrench in picking this match up. He showed some real promise and electricity when he replaced Wentz late in the Green Bay game, almost getting the Eagles back into the game at one point in the 4th quarter.

I am taking the Eagles +8 to cover. Taysom Hill has played at an almost unrealistic level for a backup quarterback who isn’t even really used as a quarterback when Brees is healthy and in the lineup.

This Eagles defense, coupled with Hurts’ mobility and ability to stretch plays and open up the defense, will be able to keep it within a touchdown. The Saints win 27-20, but the Eagles cover.
