To help this year’s Safer Gambling Week, Southampton Football Club has teamed up with its main club partner, Sportsbet.io, to raise awareness about how to play more safely.
More than 100,000 workers will participate in the annual campaign, which started in 2017 to unite all sectors of the gambling industry and will take place this year from November 19-25, at more than 9,000 gambling venues and web platforms.
Driven by the Betting and Gaming Council trade associations, the Bingo Association and the British Amusement Catering Trade Association, who are again followed this year by the Irish Bookmakers Association, SGW sees ‘Let’s Talk About Safer Gambling’ as the 2020 strapline.
Southampton has aligned with the Coingaming Group brand to launch ‘Listen to the Saint in You as part of its dedication to supporting responsible gambling, urging fans to weigh the risks before making a bet. This sees a fan being advised by Saints trio Ryan Bertrand, Nathan Redmond and Oriol Romeu on how to gamble responsibly.
David Thomas, the chief commercial officer of Southampton Football Club, noted: “The club takes its responsibility to promoting responsible gambling extremely seriously, and it is important that we are proactive in exploring new opportunities to implement our commitment to this cause.”
In addition, the club also highlights the help available from RecoverMe, a new mobile wellness app that seeks to motivate individuals from their pocket to handle a gambling addiction.
The RecoverMe app offers help for problem gamblers, enabling them to seek assistance and offering a separate support choice to avoid gambling-related damage nationwide.
The club will help promote the creation and usability of the app, and is part of what it calls “a responsibility to raise awareness of the support available to those that might need it.”
RecoverMe, founded by three junior physicians, Minal Jain, Tejus Patel and Adil Nayeem, focuses on scientifically-backed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which allows users to control their addiction by focusing on their gambling patterns, questioning thoughts and feelings about gambling and accessing mindfulness sessions, as well as accessing an emergency helpline and self-help exercises.
