The Grade III, $200,000 Florida Oaks will run as Race 10 on Tampa Bay Downs’ Saturday card.
The event for 3-year-old fillies covers 1 1/16 miles on turf and is set to include names like Jouster, Domain Expertise, and Oyster Box among the field of 12.
Here is a look at the top runners set for the Florida Oaks:
Betting Preview: Jouster, Domain Expertise
The morning-line favorite coming in at 2/1 is Starlight Racing’s Jouster. The Noble Mission filly is trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher.
She has a career record of 2-1-0 from four starts with earnings of $64,920. In 2021, she has two wins from two starts.
Those two victories included a February 7 allowance optional claiming race, where she registered a career-high 98 Speed Figure, and a January 10 maiden special weight race at Gulfstream Park. To close out 2020, she ran fifth in a September 26 maiden special weight race at Belmont Park.
Jouster will break from post 2 under jockey Luis Saez.
She will be running against the 3/1 Domain Expertise, owned by Klaravich Stables. The Kitten’s Joy filly is trained by Chad Brown.
She has a career record of 1-1-1 from four starts and earnings of $35,700. In 2021, she has one third-place run from one outing.
That performance came in the January 30 Sweetest Chant Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park, where she registered a career-high 96 Speed Figure. The filly’s last race of her 2-year-old campaign was a December 5 maiden special weight victory at Tampa Bay Downs, which followed a seventh-place run in the October 3 Selima Stakes (Black Type) at Pimlico.
Domain Expertise will break from post 10 under jockey Antonio Gallardo.
Betting Preview: Oyster Box, Mia Martina
The third-choice at 4/1 is Gainesway Stable’s Oyster Box. The Tapit filly is trained by H. Graham Motion.
She has a perfect career record of 2-0-0 from two starts with earnings of $47,550. In 2021, she has one win from one start.
That victory came in a January 6 allowance optional claiming race at Tampa Bay Downs. In 2020, she scored an October 3 maiden special weight race at Belmont Park.
Oyster Box will break from post 11 under jockey Junior Alvarado.
One of the horses with longer odds at 8/1 is Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gianni Fittipaldi’s Mia Martina. The daughter of Not This Time is trained by H. Graham Motion.
She is also a perfect two-for-two and has earnings of $57,500.
Her most recent race was a January 10 allowance optional claiming victory at Gulfstream Park, and she closed out 2020 with a November 27 maiden special weight win at Gulfstream Park West.
Mia Martina will break from post 3 under jockey Julien Leparoux.
The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include: Flight to Shanghai (post 4, 15/1); Queen of the Green (post 5, 20/1); Be Sneaky (post 6, 10/1); Alex’s First (post 7, 30/1); Big Band Luzziann (post 8, 20/1); Hindsight (post 9, 15/1); Forever Boss (post 12, 15/1); and Big Bad Diva (post 1, 20/1) (MTO).
Free Betting Pick
There is no heavy favorite in this one, and the morning-line favorite Jouster is only coming in at 2/1. Domain Expertise, coming in at 3/1, is a good choice. She is coming off a career-high Speed Figure, so she should be able to keep up with the favorite. Unlike Jouster, Domain Expertise has stakes experience.
