The Maryland Million Sprint Stakes Preview and Free Betting Pick – Saturday, October 24, 2020

The $100,000 Maryland Million Sprint Handicap will run as Race 10 on the October 24th card at Laurel Park.

The event for 3-year-olds and up will cover six furlongs and include names like Onemoregreattime, Lewisfield, and Brilliant Chase among the field of 10.

Here is a look at the top runners set for the Maryland Million Sprint Handicap.

Betting Preview: Onemoregreattime, Lewisfield

The morning-line favorite coming in at 3/1 is Clover Hill Farm Inc. and Clover Hill Racing’s Onemoregreattime. The 5-year-old gelding from Great Notion is trained by Jeremiah O’Dwyer.

He has a career record of 5-4-2 from 22 starts and earnings of $234,990. In 2020, he has one win and one second from six outings.

Last time out, he took fifth in the September 5th Polynesian Stakes (Black Type) at Laurel Park. He also finished second in a July 4th allowance optional claiming race at the track and scored another on January 3rd there as well. The latter resulted in a 109 Speed Figure.

Onemoregreattime will break from Post 3 under jockey Jevian Toledo.

He will be up against the 7/2 Lewisfield, owned by Linda Zang. The 6-year-old gelding from Great Notion is trained by Jeff Runco.

He is 8-5-6 from 25 career starts with earnings of $490,437. He is still looking for his first win of 2020, having finished off-the-board in two starts.

Those two performances were a ninth-place finish in the August 28th Russell Road Stakes Presented by Triple Crown nutrition (Black Type) at Charles Town and a fourth-place finish in a July 4th allowance optional claiming race at Laurel Park. To close out his 2019 season, he scored the December 7th Howard and Sondra Bender Memorial Stakes (Black Type) at Laurel Park.

Lewisfield will break from Post 7 under jockey Joracio Karamanos.

Betting Preview: Brilliant Chase

Also among the field is the 5/1 Brilliant Chase, owned by S. D. Trading. The 3-year-old Golden Lad colt is trained by Bryant Taylor.

He is 3-4-4 from 15 career starts and has earnings of $154,060. In 2020, he has three wins, three seconds, and one third from eight outings.

The colt is coming off a September 29th allowance victory at Parx Racing, which followed a runner-up effort in another on September 7th at the track. He also won an August 11th allowance optional claiming race at the track and a July 13th maiden special weight race.

Brilliant Chase will break from Post 4 under Victor Carrasco.

The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include: Whiskey and You (Post 1, 20/1), Baptize the Boy (Post 2, 15/1), Seany P (Post 5, 15/1), Hall Pass (Post 6, 6/1), Karan’s Notion (Post 8, 12/1), For the Moment (Post 9, 15/1), and Let’s Play Nine (Post 10, 5/1).

Free Betting Pick

There is no clear top runner in this one, but Lewisfield could overcome the favorite. While he has yet to win in 2020, his races to close out 2019 were impressive. His 7/2 odds could provide decent winnings as well.
